ところが

  • 以前に述べたことや予想したこととの矛盾や予想外の不一致を示す文を述べるのに使われる接続詞。

例文

  • スーパーへ買(か)い物(もの)に来(き)た。ところが、財布(さいふ)を忘(わす)れて何(なに)も買(か)えなかった。
    I went shopping at the supermarket. However, I forgot my wallet and couldn’t buy anything.
  • 日本(にほん)のチームは優勝(ゆうしょう)すると思(おも)っていた。ところが、負(ま)けてしまった。
    I thought the Japanese team would win. However, they lost.
  • 夏休(なつやす)みに海(うみ)へ行(い)く予定(よてい)だった。ところが、熱(ねつ)が出(で)て行(い)けなかった。
    I was supposed to go to the beach during summer vacation, but I couldn’t because I had a fever.
  • 友達(ともだち)の家(いえ)に、借(か)りた本(ほん)を返(かえ)しに行(い)った。ところが、友達(ともだち)は留守(るす)だった。
    I went to my friend’s house to return the book I borrowed. However, my friend was not home.
  • バス停(てい)まで走(はし)った。ところが、バスの時間(じかん)に間(ま)に合(あ)わなかった。
    I ran to the bus stop. However, I couldn’t make it in time for the bus.
