    According to the news, there was a big earthquake in Hokkaido.
  • 部長(ぶちょう)は今日(きょう)会議(かいぎ)に出席(しゅっせき)できないということです。
    The department head said he couldn’t attend the meeting today.
  • 田中(たなか)さんは忙(いそが)しいということだから、パーティーには来(こ)ないと思(おも)う。
    Since Tanaka-san is busy, I don’t think he will come to the party.
