V(辞書(じしょ)) + わけにはいかない

  • 社会的、道徳的、または個人的な義務により、何かをすることができないことを表すのに使われる文型。
  • 話者が、行動を起こさなければならない、またはやりたいと思っても行動が制限されていることを示すのに使われることが多い。

意味

例文

  • もう20時(じ)だが、仕(し)事(ごと)が終(お)わらないので、帰(かえ)るわけにはいかない。
    It is already 20:00, but since my work isn't finished, I cannot afford to go home.
  • 体(たい)調(ちょう)が悪(わる)いが、今(きょ)日(う)は大(だい)事(じ)なテストなので、休(やす)むわけにはいかない。
    I don't feel well, but since today is an important test, I cannot afford to take the day off.
  • そんなに高(たか)いプレゼント、もらうわけにはいきません。

    Since I live in a village, I cannot afford not to drive, so I cannot part with my car.
