V + ところだった

  • 何かがもう少しで起こりそうだったが、回避されたまたは結局起こらなかったことを表すのに使われる文型。
  • 特定の出来事や行動（通常、否定的または望ましくないもの）が起こりかけていたが、最後の最後で避けられたことを強調する。

接続

  • V(辞書(じしょ)) + ところだった
  • V(ない) + ところだった

例文

  • いつもより30分(ふん)遅(ぷん)い時間(じかん)に起(お)きてしまい、会社(かいしゃ)に遅(おく)れるところだった。
    I woke up 30 minutes later than usual and almost ended up late for work.
  • 行(い)きは雨(あめ)だったが、帰(かえ)りは晴(は)れていたので、会社(かいしゃ)に傘(かさ)を忘(わす)れるところだった。
    It was raining on the way there, but it was sunny on the way back, so I almost forgot my umbrella at the office.
  • 電車(でんしゃ)が遅(おく)れて、あと少(すこ)しでテストに間(ま)に合(あ)わないところだった。
    The train was delayed, and I was almost going to miss the test.
  • 釣(つ)りをしたとき、足(あし)が滑(すべ)って、海(うみ)に落(お)ちるところだった。
    When I went fishing, I slipped and almost fell into the sea.
  • もう少(すこ)しテストの結果(けっか)が悪(わる)ければ、留学(りゅうがく)できないところでした。
    If my test results had been a little worse, I wouldn't have been able to study abroad.
