V(ます) + かける

  • 動作が始まったが、完了していない、または終了する前に中断されたことを表すのに使われる文型。

例文

  • 恋人(こいびと)に手紙(てがみ)を書(か)きかけたが、恥(は)ずかしくなってやめてしまった。
    I started writing a letter to my lover, but got embarrassed and gave up.
  • この虫(むし)は、もう死(し)にかけている。
    This insect is almost dead.
  • 会議(かいぎ)で意見(いけん)を言(い)いかけたが、時間(じかん)がなかったのでやめた。
    I almost started to give my opinion in the meeting, but I stopped because there was no time.
  • 日本語(にほんご)の試験(しけん)になかなか合格(ごうかく)できなくて、あきらめかけた。
    I almost gave up because I couldn’t pass the Japanese exam.
  • 家(いえ)に帰(かえ)りかけたとき、忘(わす)れ物(もの)に気付(きづ)きました。
    When I was about to go home, I realized I had forgotten something.
