さ-form (nominalization)

  • A conjugation of い-adjectives used to transform adjectives into nouns that express the degree or quality of the adjective.
  • To form the さ-form, add "さ" to the stem of an い-adjective.

Example Sentences

  • 飛(ひ)行(こう)機(き)に乗(の)る前(まえ)に、荷(に)物(もつ)の重(おも)さを量(はか)る。
    Before boarding the plane, I weigh my luggage.
  • 東(とう)京(きょう)スカイツリーの高(たか)さは634メートルです。
    The Tokyo Skytree is 634 meters tall.
  • このジュースは甘(あま)さがちょうどいい。
    This juice has just the right amount of sweetness.
  • この海(うみ)の深(ふか)さは、何(なん)メートルぐらいですか。
    How deep is this sea, about how many meters?
