Grammar pattern

V(causative) + せてもらえませんか

  • A grammar pattern used when the speaker politely requests permission to perform a certain action.
  • It is often used when the speaker believes that the action is likely to be allowed by the other person.

Example Sentences

  • 頭(あたま)が痛(いた)いので、今(きょ)日(う)は早(はや)く帰(かえ)らせてもらえませんか。 ー わかりました。お大(だい)事(じ)に。
    Since I have a headache, may I leave early today? – I understand. Take care.
  • 会(かい)議(ぎ)をしたいんですが、この部(へ)屋(や)を使(つか)わせてもらえませんか。 ー ええ、どうぞ。
    I want to have a meeting, but can I use this room? - Yes, please go ahead.
  • きれいなお着(き)物(もの)ですね。写(しゃ)真(しん)を撮(と)らせてもらえませんか。 ー いいですよ。
