Present Negative sentence

  • A present negative sentence of an い-adjective is "いAくない + です", which is used to deny or negate a current state or condition of the subject in polite style.
  • To form this sentence, place the stem of an い-adjective followed by "くない", and add "です" to the end of the sentence.
  • It can be replaced with "いAく + ありません" in a formal context.

  • このコーヒーは、おいしくないです。
    This coffee is not delicious.
  • 私(わたし)の机(つくえ)は、大(おお)きくないです。
    My desk is not big.
  • 家(いえ)から会社(かいしゃ)まで、あまり遠(とお)くありません。
