Sonkeigo (Basic form)

  • Basic form is a form of sonkeigo (尊敬語, respectful language) which can be created by conjugating verbs according to the following rules:
    - Group 1 and 2: お + V(ます) + になります
    - Group 3: ご + V(ます) + になります

Example Sentences

  • お客(きゃく)様(さま)はもうお帰(かえ)りになりました。
    The customer has already left.
  • パソコンをご利(り)用(よう)になりますか。
    Would you like to use the computer?
  • 部(ぶ)長(ちょう)、今(け)朝(さ)の新(しん)聞(ぶん)をお読(よ)みになりましたか。
    Manager, have you read this morning's newspaper?
  • 社(しゃ)長(ちょう)はコーヒーをお飲(の)みになっている。
    The president is having a cup of coffee.
  • 今(きょ)日(う)は、大(おお)阪(さか)のどちらにお出(で)かけになったんですか。
