Omission of Particles

  • In informal conversation, particles are often omitted when the speaker believes the listener can infer the relationship between the words before and after the particle.

Example Sentences

  • 誕(たん)生(じょう)日(び)、いつですか。 ー 10月(がつ)15日(にち)ですよ。
    When is your birthday? - It's October 15th.
  • ケーキ、食(た)べませんか。 ー いいですね。食(た)べましょう。
    Would you like some cake? - Yes, let's have some.
  • 紙(かみ)とペン、ありますか。 ー 今(いま)、ないです。すみません。
    Do you have paper and a pen? - I don't have them now. Sorry.
  • ギターを売(う)っている店(みせ)、知(し)っていますか。 ー 知(し)っていますよ。
    Do you know a store that sells guitars? - Yes, I do.
  • 天(てん)気(き)いいから、海(うみ)行(い)こうよ。
    The weather is nice, so let's go to the beach.
