Grammar pattern

V(て) + とく

  • A grammar pattern used to convey the idea of doing a certain action in advance or keeping the current state without doing anything for a specific purpose in the future.
  • It is a short form of the pattern "V(て) + ておく" and is often used in casual conversations.

  • 明(あ)日(した)のパーティーの飲(の)み物(もの)、私(わたし)が買(か)っとくよ。 ー ありがとう。お願(ねが)い。
    I’ll get the drinks for tomorrow’s party. — Thanks, I appreciate it.
  • デートの前(まえ)に、レストランを予(よ)約(やく)しといた。
    I made a reservation at the restaurant before the date.
  • 買(か)ってきたビールはどこ？ ー 冷(れい)蔵(ぞう)庫(こ)に入(い)れといたよ。
    Where is the beer I bought? – I put it in the fridge.
